Tribute to Elvis

Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Vernon Elvis & Gladys Love Presley. His father and his uncle built the house he lived in by themselves in 1934. He had an identical twin brother that died at birth, and he was raised as an only child. Elvis died on August 16, 1977 of a heart attach caused by an overdose of drugs. Today marks the 34th day of his death.

Sexual Offenders and Predators

I took my two grandchildren, ages 4 and  7, to the pediatrician  a couple of days ago for a check up. She asked them questions like: How much milk do you drink in a day? How often do you brush your teeth? Would you talk to a stranger? If a stranger came up to you and asked if you would like to come see their puppies would you go? Lots and lots of questions.

She then told them she needed to check their private parts meaning the front and back parts. She told them that their private parts were THEIR private parts, and no one was to see them unless their mom or grandmother were with them. She told them that even she couldn't look if I was not there.

Then she told me that we have an enormous amount of sexual offenders and predators in our area.

I have talked with the children forever about strangers. When we go to the toy store we have to take turns looking on different isles. We have to stay together.

My curiosity got the better of me today. I went to the  Florida Department of Law Enforcement Sexual Offenders and Predators website. I typed in my address and learned that I have 4 offenders within 1 mile of my house, 10 within 2 miles, 37 within 3 miles, 49 within 4 miles and 66 within 5 miles of my house. I understand that some of these could be people charged that were 18 years old with their 16 year old girlfriend, but 66 within 5 miles!?!?!? If I cut this in half it's still 33 predators within 5 miles of my house!

I have never let the children go out to play on the swing set without me being outside with them. I have run in to check laundry or get us a drink. I don't think I can do that anymore.

I would really like to hear your comments on this.

Can you even imagine? This picture is suppose to be from one of the famous Wal Mart Shoppers pictures. If so, would you not have called the police? I can't even imagine anyone doing this unless it was a prank to upset people like me. Even then, think of all the germs on that floor. Would you put you baby on a public floor like that? Are people really that ignorant? I am definitely having a moment over this one.

Pool Party

Yesterday we had a wonderful time at a pool party. One of the families from our church invited families with children to there house. We all took a dish and they had hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. Yummy!

The kids had a great time swimming.

There was a creek out back where some of the older children enjoyed canoeing.  We all had a so much fun!

My baby girl was asleep in the car before we got home. She also fell asleep in church this morning. What a great tired this was.

The Process of Making Cupcakes with Kids

What could be more fun or messier than making cupcakes with kids?

Every once in a while I decide to have a creative moment with my grandchildren. Today while I was at the grocery store I decided it would be fun for us to make cupcakes. My granddaughter LOVES cupcakes, and has been wanting to make them for some time. She is four. Her brother is seven, and he was quite excited about this adventure too.

So tonight after dinner we got started. They wanted to do it all. We got everything in the bowl and got it mixed together. Then the fun began... I let them put the badder in the cupcake papers.

These are marble cupcakes. Yellow cake mix with chocolate cake mix swirled in.

This is what they looked like when I took them out of the oven.

After they cooled they iced them.

Then they started with the sprinkles, but couldn't wait for me to take the picture. So this was my final picture.

This is the process of making cupcakes with kids, and as you can see it was a success!

Fighting with my Blog

Well I had a little fight with my blog, but it seems to have shaped up, and now is behaving nicely.
It's time to get serious and start catching up on my blogging.

Life has been good! I went to the beach the other day. It was so much fun! I told one of my girlfriends, and she commented on how she couldn't even remember how to do that. It had been such a long time since she had been. So I explained it to her.

You get a bunch of stuff together. Pile it in the car, go to the beach and drag it all back out and haul it to the sand. Then you set it all up neatly, and plop into a chair. After a minute or two things are not so neat anymore and there is sand on everything. So you sit there and vegetate for a while. Then you try to walk through the HOT sand that feels like quicksand beneath your feet to the water so you can get some of the sand off. Hopefully you don't get knocked down by a wave. Then you work your way back through the quicksand, which is very HOT, and plop back in the chair. After you do this two or three times you pack everything back up and haul it back to the car so you can try to get it all in there again. Drive home feeling quite grimy. Unload the car, clean everything up, put it away, get a shower, claps, and say, "I went to the beach today. It was so much fun!"

Fun Day

I had so much fun today! I met a friend that I went to high school with at our local Hibiscus Festival. I bought a "Desert Rose" plant and something else that I have been watching in my neighbors yard for a few years. Sorry I don't know the name, but it has fascinated me for some time now. My friend bought a yellow Hibiscus.

When I got home I took my two grandchildren swimming in the pool. They love it, and I did too!

We all got cleaned up for the night. Now we are all ready for Sunday School and Church tomorrow.

Had left over pizza from last night.... Life is good!
