The Birth of Jesus

With Christmas just around the corner I thought remembering the birth of Jesus would be appropriate. This is taken from the NIV bible. (New International Version)

Luke 2:1-7 The Birth of Jesus

1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register.
4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and the line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. she wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Can you imagine being 9 month pregnant, and walking to another town? The distance between Galilee and Judea, I believe is 60 or 70 miles. Then you find that so many people have come to register that there was no place to lie down or sleep. Now remember ladies, Mary is probably in labor now. They are either offered, or stumble upon this manger that is small with a little roof over it. Now the manger is a trough or box that holds food for the animals. Mary gives birth to baby Jesus, wraps him up and places him in the animals food bowl. Remember, she will soon have to walk back to Nazareth in Galilee.
